the Program carried out in our school:
In January of the last semester, the Roots & shoots of our school carried out a campaign on recycling the Tetra Pak packages throughout the whole school (including No.1 Experimental School). It was an affirmative response to the “Green Expo, Start from supporting Eco-chairs” campaign, which is held by organizations and institutions such as the Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau and the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau. This program requests students to collect the Tetra Pak packages after cutting them open and washing them. During the process of the program, the students worked very well together and collect the Tetra Pak packages as an active response to the campaign. With the hard work of the R&S members and all the class monitors, we received approximately 2416 Tetra Pak packages that had been processed correctly in less than one month. The program ended in a cheerful success.
Ways of carrying out the program:
We carried out this program on campus, as well as in the No.1 Experimental School. We sent out notices to head teachers and monitors of every class, and meanwhile, publicized this program to the head teachers of every grade in person. We also gave out forms to record the number of packages received to all the class monitors, and every student was obliged to donate at least one Tetra Pak package. This program received great support from the headmasters as well. We were permitted to hang posters of this campaign on the billboards on campus. Clips for publicity were also shown to the whole school in the canteen hall as well as during the weekly school meeting on television. Thanks to all the efforts we’d made, this program raised care among the students in no time. With the help and supervision of the faculty and class monitors, almost every student donated at least one Tetra Pak package. This campaign successfully enhanced care and concern for the environmental among students, and offered them the best opportunity to take active parts in an environmental protection program.
Thoughts & feelings afterwards:
This program not only meant a lot to the R&S members, but also to all the students in our school. Students have formed the great habit of recycling Tetra Pak packages during the campaign. Up till now, we can still receive carefully processed Tetra Pak packages from time to time. Much to the delight of the R&S members, the awareness and concern for environmental protection among the students have improved greatly. From my perspective, as long as we do our jobs and support every program heart and soul, Roots & shoots is sure to get more and more influential in the society, and the care and concern for our planet is sure to take root in the hearts of many!
